"Thoughts of the Day" archive
Copyright Max, 2007/2008, all rights reserved

My thought-of-the-day archive is no more (and no less) than what its name implies. Sometimes I have a random thought, and say to myself, "I should write that down." It is a grab-bag of ideas. Certain ideas may express an opinion, but be forewarned that my opinion may have subsequently changed :-) It began as a daily project, but I am editing this archive to include only my favortie entries.
~ Max

May 2008
  • 5/7/2008: In the end, I thought living life in reverse would make it much more poignant; pregnant with meaning, bursting with hindsight. I was wrong. But it reminded me to hope. And hope is good.
  • 5/6/2008: To love for one's entire life would be the noblest of deeds, but merely loving does not fill the boredom, or pay the bills.
  • 5/5/2008: We struggle ineffectually against the inevitability of life.
  • 5/4/2008: Expectation and hope are the victims of insensitive reality.
  • 5/3/2008: Like machines; outdated, obsolete, and redundant; when our purpose grew stale, we were destined to repeat only what we already knew.
  • 5/2/2008: Work, for all its noble folly, is merely a tomb for the living.
  • 5/1/2008: If you think it's all been done before, it is only because it hasn't been done yet.
  • 4/30/2008: Fate is neither kind nor cruel, and only the foolish need signs.
  • 4/29/2008: The grave is but a portal to the past. Those who remain, remember.
  • 4/28/2008: Life is a poem. Tears falling in the rain are lost, like salt in the ocean.
  • 4/27/2008: A search for meaning. The unexpected truth. Not only was everything exactly what it seemed, but it was worse than we understood.
  • 4/26/2008: Life Insurance has always seemed like a cruel sham to me. No one really wants it, and you - the person paying for it - get no benefit for all the money you put into it. What I would REALLY like, though, is "Life Sucks and Then You Die" Insurance. I pay the company the premium, and they somehow make sure that my life doesn't suck while I'm alive. Now THAT i would definitely pay for.
  • 4/25/2008: In life, there is a long game, and a short game for everything. To succeed, you must be able to do one of them well, know which one it is, and plan your life's path accordingly to take advantage of your strengths.
  • 4/24/2008: Do babies in the womb ever wonder, "Am I being watched? Is there someone else out there? Is there a world beyond where I am which is different and greater than this?"
  • 4/23/2008: How many people does it take to change the world? Just one. A single individual can change the world. And if that one individual inspires others, then they too can change the world in their own way, by spreading what they have seen, and teaching by doing.
  • 4/22/2008: I believe.
  • 4/21/2008: If we had no challenges, how could we ever learn and grow? Muscles don't get stronger through calculated avoidance of use.
  • 4/20/2008: I have trust issues. Don't take it personally. I also hate phones with a passion.
  • 4/19/2008: I imagine that even the Bible could appear blasphemous, if regarded with great scrutiny, and the passages were hand-picked, without regard to context.
  • 4/18/2008: Lead by doing.
  • 4/17/2008: If people do not know you, they will only respect you as much as they can discern from how you present yourself.
  • 4/16/2008: As my father always said, study and work first for the money, and once that is secured, do what you like on the side. The reverse method rarely yields the results you need to survive.
  • 4/15/2008: I am a mirror. Whose face do I see?
  • 4/13/2008: The first step to financial independence is to stop being afraid of becoming a slave to money.
  • 4/09/2008: How can we ever know who we are until we know what we are?
  • 4/07/2008: I walk through shadows; and the world reverses in my perception. The truth is always there, waiting, but to accept it, everything else must perish.
  • 4/06/2008: There are secrets to creation hidden in the most mundane elements.
  • 4/05/2008: There is no substitution for hands-on experience.
  • 4/04/2008: No matter how smart or clever we are, we can never know how it feels to be something, or in a certain situation, unless we actually have been that something, or in that situation.
  • 4/03/2008: Imagine a world of tiny cubes. Each cube is a maze. Each maze interconnects with other mazes. We spend our lives trying to get from one point in our cube to another. If we care, and we are lucky, or do well enough, we may end up in another cube; which is simply another - but different - maze. Because of the intricate interaction between cubes, we find ourselves in the company of other maze dwellers, each on his or her own journey. They can at times assist us with our own journey or become a stumbling block. But all of this is acadmeic. The maze is all we will ever know. As long as we live, the maze is our home. How we navigate these puzzles is nothing more than a test of endurance.
  • 4/01/2008: Life is like a retirement portfolio. You have to know how to divide your time between family, work, and personal. If you do it right, as difficult as it is, then the rewards will multiply for you in all areas.

MARCH 2008
  • 3/30/2008: Frequently, I think about experiences I have had in my life - even mundane day-to-day expereinces at work - and I wonder: could it be true that, for some reason, I seem to have all these weird experiences that the average every-day person does not? How can that be? Yet, it appears to be so. Lucky, I guess. Must be my niche.
  • 3/29/2008: I often mouth my words when I am thinking. On some occasions, I whisper quietly while talking to myself. It occurs to me every now and then that when I am old, I will be one of those scary people you find on the subway, standing there obliviously sharing every thought that goes through their head with the unintended world audience. However, with the advent of bluetooth phones, I will blend right in with every other idiot walking around seeming to talk to themselves in public.
  • 3/28/2008: Speaking of dying in one's sleep, despite the popular myth that if you dream you die in your sleep, you die in real life; I have mad many vivid dreams over the years where I absolutely and without any question, died in my sleep. Yet I am still here to tell about it.
  • 3/27/2008: Have you ever had a dream which so terrified you, you knew that if you had had a weak heart you would have died in your sleep?
  • 3/26/2008: I regret being tied to material things; but welcome many of the things that they make a part of my memorable life.
  • 3/25/2008: I have said this before, but I strongly advocate separating pagan elements from Christian holidays, and essentially creating two holidays out of each, one secular, intended for all; and one Christian. For example, create a YuleTide Day for everyone, regardless of religion, and let them celebrate with candles, gifts, decorated trees and bearded men in red suits. Christians can celebrate Christ's birth at a mass with solemnity and dignity, and it should be celebrated. For Easter, have a Spring Solstice celebration with large bunnies bearing gifts, and baskets of candy and toys and flowers, and games outdoor. Again, this celebration would be for people of all religions, a celebration of spring. And Christians can celebrate christ's ressurection with solemnity and dignity, untarnished by pagan idols and rituals. By separating the holidays into what they were to begin with, we still allow all people (even Christian families) to enjoy the fun of the Winter and Spring events, but Christian holidays are not tainted with paganism.
  • 3/24/2008: If I accidentally say something inappropriate, shame on me, but especially shame on YOU if you proceed to make a big deal out of it.
  • 3/23/2008: For me to say "I believe in Faeries" really means that "I don't disbeleive in Faeries." With as many species of life on this planet that are seen and unseen, it doesn't seem so impossible for me to beleive that some small species or other learned to live in hiding or obscurity once the brutality of humanity became apparent. Though, when I say I believe in Faeries, I mean the Celtic Sidhe (shee); not the tinkerbells of Disneyland - just for clarification.
  • 3/22/2008: So many people have their dreams dashed by one small misstep which, once taken, can not be retracted; and which costs them everything. It might be a word, an action, a typo, or anything which casts doubt on them as a candidate for support.
  • 3/21/2008: It's hard to sleep when your belly is hungry.
  • 3/20/2008: Sometimes, the sounds of the cars on the road are like an angelic, arboreal choir; if you listen closely enough, from far enough away.
  • 3/19/2008: When in doubt, say nothing. When absolutely certain, say as little as possible.
  • 3/18/2008: If I must ultimately fail, at least I want to do it on my own terms.
  • 3/17/2008: Reject fear; the world will bow to your resolve.
  • 3/16/2008: The best thing about being clueless is that you are blissfuly unaware of your own stupidity.
  • 3/15/2008: A philosophy question that might not be very far off: If technology allowed a device to accurately read and record people's thoughts, should those thoughts be allowed to be read, collected, and used as preventative indicators to help the greater good?
  • 3/14/2008: I'm a 'closet optimist'
  • 3/13/2008: One of the biggest flaws of the modern 'American Dream' is that EVERYONE feels they deserve to have the highest quality of life (As Seen On TV), regardless of the effort they put into achieving it.
  • 3/12/2008: When you get out in front, do whatever you can to stay out in front for as long as you can, because two things are true: no one gets to stay out in front forever; and once you fall behind it's a hell of a lot harder to get back where you once were.
  • 3/11/2008: Survival as a civilization is a team effort, with everyone working together for common goals, each doing his or her required part. Yet, individuality adds the ingredient which makes life worth living.
  • 3/10/2008: Find comfort in what you can. If you appreciate the gifts that have been given to you, more gifts will come your way.
  • 3/09/2008: Laughter shakes loose the filth from the trenches of our soul.
  • 3/08/2008: Recently I began to get an idea of a New America; one in which starvation was truly eradicated. The government already subsidizes farmers and pays some not to grow. Part of my new idea was to have the government subsidize ALL staple products. And then have ALL staple products be available for free to ALL people in this country. These would not have to be fancy designer versions of these products; those could still be produced by commercial organizations wishing to make their profits. But bread, potatoes, tomatoes, corn, etc. would be available at supermarkets and feeding stations everywhere. Any person, from homeless to wealthy, could go and get a bag. There would be restrictions to prevent people from hoarding food to sell to other nations for a profit. With the people of the nation having healthy food readily available, there would be less sickness, and the money not spent on staples could go back into the economy as a stimulus for other programs. This is part one of my "New America" vision.
  • 3/06/2008: Nourish your heart, body, and soul; or else an integral part will wither, and the flesh will buckle from within.
  • 3/05/2008: The 'great' can not be aware of the 'small'; unless they have need of them.
  • 3/04/2008: An army might not fell an evil dictator, but a virus might eradicate his entire kingdom.
  • 3/03/2008: Mankind relies too much on what it can see. As a result, it is prey to that which is unseen.
  • 3/02/2008: Creativity is the ability to make something which did not previously exist. Poignant creativity is the gift of creating something which inherently speaks to people on some level. Marketing is the ability to sell an idea, whether it is creative, speaks to people, or not.
  • 3/01/2008: What makes something an epic story is not that it happened, but that someone took the time to tell it. And pass it down.

FEBRUARY 2008
  • 2/29/2008: An object might be both pure white and pure black at the same time. But the person viewing it will only see it as one of the two. Most will see it a certain way. Others will see it differently. The majority will call them mad because they see something which the majority does not; but that is because they believe too strongly that truths are absolute, when truths are actually perception.
  • 2/26/2008: I am revising a former thought: There is a difference between 'knowing' and 'believing'; and a difference between 'believing', and 'believing with true conviction'.
  • 2/25/2008: Once you have removed all the wrong choices, you are left with only the right choices.
  • 2/24/2008: There is a plus to being blissfuly ignorant; but a danger to being cluelessluy unaware.
  • 2/20/2008: Sometimes, you can't see the silver through the grey.
  • 2/19/2008: When you are in the middle of the ocean, it seems as if land does not even exist.
  • 2/18/2008: There's a time and a place for subtlety and grace. But if you're calling ME in on the job, this clearly ain't one a' them times :-)
  • 2/17/2008: Sometimes, when I have memories, I am not sure if they are of the past, or the future.
  • 2/16/2008: Above all else, beware of cults, and cults of personality.
  • 2/15/2008: We can replace every part in the world, but eventually all things must break.
  • 2/12/2008: As long as you are in someone else's shadow, you can not realize your own full potential.
  • 2/10/2008: For something to be true, it must ALWAYS be true. For something to be false, it need only fail once.
  • 2/8/2008: Not believing in God does not prevent God's blessings; but it may prevent one from recognizing them.
  • 2/7/2008: Perhaps it is that people who eat organic food are more aware of what they put into their body in general, and therefore consume fewer extraneous toxins (fats, sweets, etc.) ... rather than asserting any blanket claim that organic food is better or more nutritious than non-organic food.
  • 2/6/2008: A bad person can still do good. A person who can not save himself or herself, can still save the world.
  • 2/4/2008: Everything in your life is a lesson. Don't waste it.
  • 2/3/2008: Seeing the future and knowing for certain it is going to happen are two different things. The act of seeing can cause us to do something we might not have done otherwise, which then changes the outcome.
  • 2/2/2008: The human species is more of a 'hive' than most people realize. To save ourselves, we must save others.
  • 2/1/2008: There is always hope. Even when all hope is lost.

JANUARY 2008
  • 1/31/2008: There are those among you, reading this now, who will do great things.
  • 1/30/2008: Nice people do not always finish last, and bad people do not always get away with their crimes. Justice is infinitely more subtle than that.
  • 1/29/2008: Life is in many ways like a puzzle. When you find the piece you are looking for, it simply fits where it should, and you know it is right.
  • 1/28/2008: The truth you seek is already before you.
  • 1/22/208: If you see something that needs to be done, just DO IT!!! Don't wait for 'the other guy' to notice, or some other ploy that takes the responsbility out of your hands. Get things done. This way, the world more quickly becomes a better place.
  • 1/20/2008: Much like voting for the President, there is not always a 'best choice' that represents an action to take. There is, however, usually a series of 'worse choices' to avoid. These can guide us until a good choice actually appears, assuming it does.
  • 1/19/2008: Using global disasters and tragedies as an excuse to not to believe in God just demonstrates the near-sightedness of the human condition.
  • 1/18/2008: The Serenity Prayer is one of the greatest simple truths in existence. God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I Cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and Wisdom to know the difference.
  • 1/12/2008: In the real world, nothing is perfect. We should strive for excellence. When the cost and time involved to achieve excellence outweighs the needs of the task at hand, we should settle for 'good enough.'
  • 1/10/2008: Sometimes I think I am a mockery of myself; an inside joke gone horribly wrong :-)
  • 1/9/2008: Lately, I've been burning the candle at both ends, the middle, and a couple of sides. I need a better candle.
  • 1/8/2008: I am so far beyond "stressed" that I think I have created a whole new category.
  • 1/3/2008: Anyone can have an "opinion." A leader, however, takes action.
  • 1/2/2008: The "Game of Living" ends the same for everyone.

DECEMBER 2007
  • 12/31/2007: Best wishes to all I know, living and dead, now, in the past, and in the future, in this, and all possible worlds.
  • 12/29/2007: The best plans are flexible enough to accomodate the need for change.
  • 12/26/2007: Life is a journey; from what we were, to what we will become. And those who do not seek change are either perfect, pure of heart, or fools.
  • 12/25/2007: What is noble in a man is not what powers he has, what faith he has shown, nor what deeds he has done; but what love he has left behind.
  • 12/22/2007: If you keep looking in the same place, you'll only find the same answers.
  • 12/21/2007: If Santa were smart, he would get a reindeer with a YELLOW nose to head the pack. Yellow light works better in fog and inclement conditions :-)
  • 12/20/2007: Getting married does not miraculously make a man stop being a man, or a woman stop being a woman. The same thoughts and feelings continue to exist. The trick is to find the strength and maturity to avoid the actions that would disrespect your spouse.
  • 12/19/2007: The river can be gentle and bending. The river can be harsh and direct. It can move mountains and cut through stone. It sustains life and carries away waste. The river finds the shortest possible way to attain its goal. This is a noble model for living.
  • 12/18/2007: Without conflict, there can be no progressive change. With too much conflict, disorderly and repetitious stagnation results.
  • 12/17/2007: Historically, I think one of my greatest strengths is that I really don't give a damn :-)
  • 12/16/2007: Relationships are a lot like purchasing a house. You need to go into the process with an open mind, set your limits, be realistic, and be prepared to walk away if you determine it is a bad deal for you - even if you happen to like it.
  • 12/10/2007: The world is full of curious mutants living quietly among the ordinary humans.
  • 12/4/2007: There is great responsibility in casting blame, yet there are only few who take that responsibility seriously.
  • 12/2/2007: My Mantra: ASPIRE
  • 12/1/2007: Do something spectacular today.

NOVEMBER 2007
  • 11/25/2007: Timing isn't everything. SEQUENCE is everything. Timing is a subset of sequence. Remember that.
  • 11/23/2007: This year, we began a new family tradition for Thanksgiving: the cutting of the pie with an axe. We felt it was very Nordic, and surprisingly we were all very much on board with the idea (except my brother who was opposed only on the grounds that the current axe had not been sanitized properly, so next year we will address that issue.) Viking blood never dies. It just gets weirder with age :-)
  • 11/22/2007: Speaking of my family traditions (above, on 11/23), we have a family tradition on Christmas which is called "The touching of the Pumpkin." (Obviously you have to plan for this in October/November, to have the pumpkin available for Christmas!!!) When we have our family dinner at Christmas, we casually pass around the pumpkin, and everyone in the family touches it. Very simple. To 'outsiders' it seems very strange, but I explain to them that the pumpkin ends up crossing several seasons and several holidays. It represents the fulfillment of the harvest, the celebration of joy in life, and also the beginning of the coming new year. It is a testament to life, and to all things new, renewed, and to hope. It is a testament to life, and belief in the future.
  • 11/20/2007: There seems to be a pattern to learning and love. We fear what we do not understand. We are intrigued by those things or people, about which/whom we know only little. Familiarity breeds contempt. To know something completely leads to boredom and loathing. To leave that which we had come to know completely - for a long enough time - makes us appreciate what we had come to know; without loathing, but with love and respect.
  • 11/19/2007: People like to make fun of people with quirks, people who are different; but in the end, those are the people who are not forgotten.
  • 11/15/2007: When you have a problem, you deal with it and you move on. If it can't be solved right away, you shelve it until you have the resources/time to deal with it, then you deal with it and move on. If it is a chronic problem that continues to get worse while waiting to be fixed, you do everything you can to keep it under control until you have the time/resources to fix it, and then you move on. Don't dwell on problems. Dwelling on them only creates more problems.
  • 11/14/2007: How many times do you have to punish yourself and forgive yourself for mistakes you've made in your life, before the memory of those mistakes stop haunting you?
  • 11/7/2007: If an official spokeperson is saying it, whether political, corporate, sports, or media-based, you know it has been scripted by marketing people who's job is to control the tone to create the right spin for the targeted audience. Information is power. And with the big players, it is not left up to chance. But don't believe one voice just because it is contrary from the other. They are all playing the same game.
  • 11/6/2007: Start projects; finish them.

OCTOBER 2007
  • 10/31/2007: The greatest arrogrance is 'absolute certainty.'
  • 10/30/2007: The only unforgivable mistake is 'refusing to learn from your mistake.'
  • 10/29/2007: Patience is the art of waiting for the inevitable, and finding peace within, even knowing that the end is not what we seek.
  • 10/25/2007: Sometimes, I wonder what "most important message" I would like to leave behind after I die. Tonight, I might say, above all: do not be afraid.
  • 10/24/2007: I have had both - loving pet, and immediate family member - die in my arms; and contrary to obvious expectation, both are equally painful to endure.
  • 10/14/2007: Twice in my life, I remember falling through ice on a frozen lake. Oddly, I only remember escaping once.
  • 10/13/2007: The more roads you walk down, the more paths you will recognize that others are taking. You may be in a position to tell them which path is best because you already have been there. They will not listen.
  • 10/12/2007: Sometimes, I am honest enough to admit that I already have everything I need. Anything else I want is just a diversion to stave off the tedium.
  • 10/10/2007: When I look back at my life, I have a lot of bad memories, but oddly enough, I don't think I have any regrets.
  • 10/9/2007: The world around you is a composite of who you are; because what you see, hear, and experience is filtered through your perceptions.
  • 10/8/2007: Be careful when you stop to smell the roses. Someone won't be paying attention and might cut your head off with some electric trimmers.
  • 10/2/2007: Act confident, even if you aren't. No one knows how you really feel, if you don't show it.

SEPTEMBER 2007
  • 9/27/2007: "Technological advancement" is another way of saying "making a profit from mass-producing something we once did for free."
  • 9/26/2007: It's easier to convince strangers than friends of a new idea. Friends are more willing to listen out of courtesy; but strangers are more willing to believe, because they hear the idea without any preconceived notion about your ideas.
  • 9/25/2007: My greatest fear is that the fabric of the universe will tear and there won't be a sewing machine big enough to fix it.
  • 9/23/2007: Sometimes the most radical action is to embrace conservatism. (you may have to look very carefully to find this truth.)
  • 9/17/2007: In the 21st Century, 'open-minded' is a synonym for 'believing without facts.'
  • 9/15/2007: The most outrageous statements, now matter how true, can be easily "discredited" by countering with a comforting reply in a reassuring voice.
  • 9/13/2007: Sometimes, the most effective battlefield is the battle of words.
  • 9/7/2007: There is no such thing as absolute truth. Everything is context
  • 9/1/2007: Clutter is bad for the soul.

AUGUST 2007
  • 8/28/2007: Sounds I like: the crash of waves against the rocky coast; the howl of wind through the air; the pounding of rain across a pane of glass; the crunching of footprints in freshly fallen snow; crickets; wolves howling; a pretty girl humming; the trickle of a stream in a mountain; the distant growl of thunder.
  • 8/27/2007: Smells I like: oranges. freshly brewed coffee. feta cheese. dust from the back of a warm vacuum. lilacs. the smell of crackling logs on a fire.
  • 8/23/2007: All people are not made equal, however, all people should be equal under law.
  • 8/21/2007: And in this dream, the universe was a closed box. at the point of creation, the moment of singularity, every possible event that could ever happen happened. All time and all possible outcomes were created. The world was just a creation. The spirit, however, was from outside that box. The spirit travels through the box like a car driving on uncharted roads.
  • 8/20/2007: A road is just a road, until someone travels on it; then it becomes a journey.
  • 8/10/2007: "Shoulda got a Sherpa !!!"
  • 8/09/2007: I am a work in progress.
  • 8/03/2007: Don't be upset with God. If you must be upset, let it be of man's interpretation of God.

JULY 2007
  • 7/31/2007: Everything I really need, I already have.
  • 7/27/2007: It's better to tell the truth than a lie. And, sometimes, it's better to tell the truth than the 'whole truth.'
  • 7/26/2007: You don't have to be smart to get ahead in life. You have to be determined.
  • 7/25/2007: Do not desire what you do not need.
  • 7/22/2007: Globally, too many people are caught up in finding fault. Instead, we should reach out to neighbors at home and abroad, shakes hands, and find common interests and goals. We will never agree with everyone 100% of the time. If we disagree with our friends, we overlook those differences because we are friends. There is no reason why we should not do the same globally. Build a chain, a network of friendship, across cities, towns, countries, and continents. Find the common threads, and put the destiny of the world in the hands of people who want to live their own life; not in the hands of political and corporate powers that want to assert their own agenda.
  • 7/20/2007: It takes many viewpoints to make a balanced world.
  • 7/19/2007: Don't rearrange a tomte's garden.
  • 7/18/2007: For Doom-Sayers, I have this brief reality check reminder: Y2K.
  • 7/17/2007: A thought is a thought; it is not a declaration of absolute belief. I do not believe in absolutes: I believe in the exploration of ideas.
  • 7/16/2007: It's never too early (or too late) for a mid-life crisis!
  • 7/15/2007: Cars, computers and networks, airplanes, bridges, electrical grids (etc) all breakdown or fail at some point, due to poor planning, poor maintenance, or overuse. Our entire 'superstructure' is built on a frail infrastructure. Although a catastrophic collapse is highly improbable, it is none-the-less quite possible.
  • 7/14/2007: There can never be a utopian society as long as humans remain selfish, greedy, and flawed.
  • 7/13/2007: What if human thought were like a molecular chain? Only by joining thoughts together could new thoughts be created. As new thoughts are created, they could be linked to form newer more complex thoughts. In the end, we could manipulate thought by knowing the core components of each.
  • 7/9/2007: Think fast. Be Flexible. Revise often.
  • 7/8/2007: True Genius is making a mistake, then finding a way to capitalize on it.
  • 7/4/2007: The time is always right to support independence. Never forget this!
  • 7/2/2007: A friend who asks you to do something against your better judgement, or against the law, is no friend at all.

JUNE 2007
  • 6/22/2007: I love learning new things about my ancestors. I just learned that my grandfather loved to play the violin. But only when he was really drunk :-)
  • 6/21/2007: When people are viewed as objects, they become just that.
  • 6/19/2007: True happiness comes from ushering life and creativity into the world.
  • 6/15/2007: Have you ever heard a piece of music which speaks to your soul; and every time you listen to it, you feel as if it is whispering a secret?
  • 6/14/2007: In the end, my desire for boundaries and isolation outweighed my possible interest in being surrounded by friends. It was simply a choice I made somewhere along the way; and never looked back.
  • 6/9/2007: I often wonder: are there rogue dysfunctional elements in the societies of ants and bees?

MAY 2007
  • 5/29/2007: I long for a time when mornings were sunny yet cool, breakfast was cinnamon toast with butter, and a cup of tea was hot, sugary, and sweet.
  • 5/28/2007: ...crashing, like an asteroid burning in the sky, pausing for recognition, then falling to the ground, graceful and terrifying... it is not over yet.
  • 5/23/2007: Someone/Something never really seems dead... until they have been buried.
  • 5/2/2007: Given the enormous population of the world, and the diverse beliefs of said inhabitants, any fringe or extreme idea given enough exposure is bound to gather a following. A controversial interpretation could easily sell enough books to make money for the author of said total ridiulous schlock. However, it is also possible that every once in a while, one of those fringe ideas - contrary to the views of mainstream public, leaders, common sense, and science - may actually be correct.

APRIL 2007
  • 4/25/2007: My idea of corporate/government waste: Management which assigns a committee to oversee a commission to do a study to determine whether "the glass is half full or half empty."
  • 4/23/2007: PET PEEVE: Control freaks, Chronic procrastinators, Sociopaths, and Micro-Managers
  • 4/22/2007: PET PEEVE: people who only open their mouth to mutter under their breath, criticize, or speak with an attitude.
  • 4/20/2007: People who use 'etiquette' as a way to make disguised passive-aggressive attacks, or exercise prejudice, should be sentenced to community service.
  • 4/19/07: Hate is the lack of imagination to encourage meaningful positive change.
  • 4/17/2007: Most people who sit on their high horse have heavy saddlebags filled with deep dark secrets.
  • 4/7/2007: I don't know about the rest of you, but when I say 'no pun intended', I usually intend it.
  • 4/5/2007: If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, then why is most breakfast food full of sugar, fat, grease, cholesterol, and salt (things we are repeatedly told are bad for us.)
  • 4/1/2007: sometimes, just HEARING the word "DECAF" antagonizes me.

MARCH 2007
  • 3/24/2007: If we were to be completely honest with ourselves, we would realize that everything we think and fight for (politics, religion, etc.) all reduces back to our core animal instincts for survival: i.e. the need for territory/shelter, food, and sex. Everything else is just a fancy justification for these acts because our brain developed the ability for abstract thought somewhere along the line.
  • 3/22/2007: Laws are just general 'guidelines', like traffic lights, and the ten commandments. It's how we 'interpret' them that really matters :-)
  • 3/19/2007: In the interest of more sexual equality in the church, I have decided to sing both "hymns" and "hers". (sorry!)
  • 3/7/2007: In life, we are given strange and mysterious keys. Our job is to find the doors they unlock.
  • 3/6/2007: I really do like people. I just choose to like them "from a distance," thank you very much.
  • 3/4/2007: Some mornings I wake up and think, "There isn't enough coffee in the world to deal with this ...!"
  • 3/3/2007: If I had a webcam, I sometimes wonder if I'd embarrass myself by using it.

FEBRUARY 2007
  • 2/28/2007: I never thought I'd be able to say I have lived across decades, centuries, and even millennia. But I have, and it's true.
  • 2/26/2007: Treat an animal like an animal and it will never be anything more than an animal. Treat it like a person, and it will aspire and rise to that recognition, to the best of its ability. The same is also true for humans.
  • 2/23/2007: Everyone's skin is the same colour. Only the pigment below it is different. Basing judgments of people on something as superifical as that is like trying to guess someone's shoe size by the shade of eye shadow they wear.
  • 2/21/2007: Have you ever noticed it's a lot harder to say 'love you' to a friend, when you actually mean it ?
  • 2/20/2007: Reading a book online, is like taking a bath without soap.
  • 2/18/2007: A leaky waterbed is no substitute for a nice cold shower.
  • 2/16/2007: Just when you think it can't get any worse, it does. Just when you think it can't get any better, it does. Moral of the story? Don't think; just do it!
  • 2/15/2007: Do you ever feel lonely, even when you're smiling?
  • 2/14/2007: It always makes me nervous that the abbreviation for Valentines Day is V.D.
